A Magical Little Shoot
I drove out to Frogcatcher Farm in Johns Creek to spend the afternoon photographing Meg, Luke, and little Theo. The place is literally tucked away in the middle of an established neighborhood — I thought my GPS had officially lost its mind — but when you finally find it, it's like stumbling upon a hidden fairytale. (A photographer’s dream!) Needless to say, I had such a great time exploring with Meg and her crew, and we captured some great images.
Meg has been riding horses for about 15 years. She started at summer camp when she was just six, growing up in the English riding world and competing in the hunter ring before switching to Western disciplines in college — and these days her focus is on barrel racing. (I hope to get the chance to see her compete!)
Luke, her 23-year-old Dutch Warmblood, is her heart horse. She started riding him as a lesson horse her freshman year of high school and bought him for herself the following year. Meg says he’s high-energy and helped her build her confidence as a rider. During our shoot, he was the perfect gentleman — alert, patient, and I really think he enjoys having his picture taken!
Then there’s Theo, the newest member of the family — a three-year-old miniature donkey Meg adopted in fall 2024 from the local rescue Jack of Trades. He was so sweet during our shoot. Meg told me he loves cuddles and attention and will even try to sit in your lap!
When I asked Meg about her long-term plans, she shared something that really captures her heart for animals:
“My dream job is to run my own rescue facility focusing on rehabilitation and retraining. A big inspiration for me is Freedom Reins, Milly’s Place, and Rising Starr Horse Rescue. While I want to primarily focus on horses, I want to be able to provide a safe haven for all animals in need. I plan on naming my rescue ‘Southern Legend Equine Rescue’ after Luke’s registered show name, Southern Legend.”
It’s clear that for Meg, riding and her time at the farm are part of much bigger things to come!
